We work closely with our global men's health partners to ensure collaboration, transparency and accountability for every project we fund. We monitor this through report cards which detail what we seek to achieve, key measures and the impact.
Prostate Cancer
"Together with the brightest minds in research, we aim to achieve significant breakthroughs in the hope of beating prostate cancer. Our disruptive funding approach identifies revolutionary ways to accelerate health outcomes by creating strong, global collaborative teams." Dr. Colleen Nelson, Global Scientific Chair.
Men's Health
"One Mo can help change the face of men’s health through the powerful conversations created globally during Movember. Men have the chance to confidently discuss men’s health with people around them, resulting in men taking action early, helping change and save lives." Paul Villanti, Executive Director, Programmes
Mental health and suicide prevention
“The number of men taking their own lives around the world is one of the biggest challenges of our time. Movember is working to ensure all men and boys look after their mental health and are comfortable to seek help when they’re struggling.”
Brendan Maher, Global Director, Mental Health and Suicide Prevention.
Testicular Cancer
“Despite being the 2nd most common cancer in young men, testicular cancer is often a forgotten cancer due to early detection and treatment. Our projects look at underinvested areas such as improving access to healthcare services and treatment options for relapse” Paul Villanti, Executive Director, Programmes.

What we seek to achieve

About the project

Settlement Services International (SSI) in partnership with beyondblue, will oversee the development of a three-tiered integrated support program to be piloted with three communities of refugee men (Arabic, Farsi/Dari and Tamil), predominately aged between 20 and 50 years:

  •  A smartphone application with bi-lingual language options will facilitate personal wellbeing (including physical and mental wellbeing, confidence, safety and self-esteem) and social participation (including building English proficiency and participation in community life, such as capacity to use community and government services). It was co-designed with the community and includes a 'mood mapper' to prompt relevant next steps for managing mental health.
  • An online toolkit for SSI Case Managers will improve the capacity of case managers to ‘have the conversation’ about depression and anxiety; provide instructions on use and implementation of the New Roots App and how to ensure the app does not always replace face-to-face engagement. The four sections of the toolkit are: Wellbeing and Settlement; Mental Health and Wellbeing; Engaging Clients; Taking Action.
  • A training course for leaders from each of the target communities which will provide strategies to improve understanding of anxiety/depression and psychological distress; give practical advice and strategies on supporting men to take action who are experiencing anxiety/depression in their community; and encourage a community wide conversation on anxiety and depression which will assist in reducing stigma. Community consultation has confirmed a strong ethos among community leaders of a shared responsibility to support newly arrived community members to settle in Australia.
  • This project is a twelve month pilot conducted in NSW only by SSI and externally evaluated. A determination on the continued provision of the project will be made after delivery of the Final Evaluation Report in December 2016.
